The 2012 Lycoming County Fitness Challenge will kick off on Monday, January 9, 2012 at the Pickelner Area in Williamsport and run through February 17, 2012. The challenge was created to encourage kids and their family to exercise more over the winter months when people tend to be less active. The basic idea is that the children receive 1 point for every minute of out of school activity they do. If they a family member participate in the activity with them, their points are doubled. In 2011, we added a Nutritional component to the Challenge, where for every serving of a fruit and vegetable the y eat, they will receive a point. We currently have 7 school districts in Lycoming county participating and the Head Start program. To date, the challenge has reached over 23,000 students and their families with over 1, 160 classrooms participating and logging over 14, 554,000 minutes of activity.
